Morning Report -- Friday
A small passing low overnight put down a 2-3 cm top up from village to top where the day has begun cloudy and village temps of neg 2 C with minus 8 C forecast for the upper mountain.
Lift access today will hopefully see all upper lifts that run at this time of season to be open.
We'll see what gets going around 830 -9am !
The link for lift operation is posted on this page.
Gate access today for the back country has been given the green light, yet high caution is advised .Keep an eye on the avalanche report . The link is supplied on this page as well.
Hard copies are also posted at the top of various lifts and gate points.
Strong Advice Always to take extra caution beyond the boundaries and please respect and obey the rules set by the patrol. Please NEVER poach rope lines or go through gated areas when they have closed them. Strong advice is to read the avalanche report that is posted on this page.
Yesterday the forecasted periods of sun made for some great riding and visibility at top was very good yet those pesky winds still challenged the upper lifts till around lunchtime when Hana 3, the tripple hooded and King single were able to operate for a few hours but solid gusts had them back on hold later in the afternoon.
During that time though, the peak gate 3 was open, as was gate 4 into Fujiwara and gates 1 and 2 into Annupuri bowls where the quality was good. Boot to shin deep and very ridable and with some great sunny conditions and lengthy breaks of blue sky. Groomers to the village were in tip top shape keeping riders of all standards very happy.
The outlook has a fairly calm day in store for today where we should see plenty of access and NW winds ranging from 5-10 k;s at base and up to 25 k's at top. The program for Saturday till Tuesday is remaining steady at this stage with a few new low pressure systems forecast to enter our region and due to put down decent new falls of snow so fresh turns look likely again and a cooler jetsream.
Night riding is down to the last 2 nights of PM turns with Saturday night being the last nighto for this season.
Should be some nice turns up there today with a handy top up so enjoy and I'll stop back in later today for the wrap and latest forecast details. Please Ride Wisely
THE WRAP
A Pretty nice Friday on the hill with all lifts running and all 9 gates to the back country open for access for the more adventurous.
The peak and Annupuri bowls were pretty sweet with still lots of fresh from a couple of days ago and a further 5cm from last night to freshen things up. Boot deep and only light winds of around 10 - 15 ks up there with good visibility had plenty of smiling faces across the 4 mountain resort.
Groomers at top to mid mountain were in great nic, yet the lower slopes reflecting freeze thaw spring top pack !
The outlook is looking good for a new set of fronts to enter our region during tomorrow where snow to low levels is forecast to start dropping and continue over Sunday Monday and into early Tuesday.
This is more great news folks and with last lifts not till Sunday May 6th ..who knows where the total accumulative for this season will end up at.
Currently with each of the 24 hr totals of new since snow began falling back in November when lifts opened, we have received over 14 and a half meters at village level and just this week have gone over the 20 meter accumulation mark ....A liitle above average so far for Niseko ..!
Looks like a mostly snowy weekend and start to the week coming up so keep the fat boards ready and Please Ride Wisely
