Morning Report -- Thursday
A calm start to the day here in Niseko with some high cloud that is expected to burn off for a mostly fine spring day.
No new to call in the last 24hrs and village temps currently sitting on 0 C with minus 3 - 6 C forecast for the mid to upper mountain. Winds are forecast at a light 5k's SE at base and up to 20k's SE at top.
Yesterday...Well....if stunning blue skies with loads of sun, low winds and great snow under the boards are your thing...yesterday had that in spades
Niseko was sparkling with spectacular views to capture some awesome images of the Hokkaido Alps and Mount Youtei at its best.
Top to bottom riding with all gates and lifts open had riders tracing tidy lines across the resort and out through the 9 gates for the more adventurous. Spring days such as these really dont come any better and today is forecast for much the same. Perhaps a little more cloud ..we shall see !
The further outlook at this stage has perhaps a bit of wobbly coming into the program on Friday as a new pressure system approaches from the SSW !
Warmer mild temps are forecast as the system tracks in, then as it moves up to the NE into the Pacific, it should bring the jetstream back to the NW with colder air where at this stage snow is forecast for later in the weekend and into the early part of the new week. Fingers crossed !
Lift access this morning is looking good with light winds speeds. We'll see what gets going around 830 -9am !
The link for lift operation is posted on this page.
Keep an eye on the avalanche report for todays gate access. The link is supplied on this page as well.
Hard copies are also posted at the top of various lifts and gate points.
Strong Advice Always to take extra caution beyond the boundaries and please respect and obey the rules set by the patrol. Please NEVER poach rope lines or go through gated areas when they have closed them. Strong advice is to read the avalanche report that is posted on this page.
Another cracker March day awaits up there so enjoy these super March conditions, please ride wisely and I'll check back in later today for the wrap up and latest forecast details.
The Wrap
Another stunning day here in NIseko. The winds at top were certainly a surprise. Gusting up to 40 k's and kept the top 3 connecting chairs on hold all day.
The tripple hooded was open for business though and gave plenty of access to a mountain of fun turns with some awesome grooming by the cat guys for great riding to the village.
Sunnies and sun screen are usually a rare thing in this part of the world yet the last 3 days has seen plenty of these 2 extras to head up the hill with.
The outlook has a SSW change headed our way with some pretty serious winds tomorrow...Perhaps up to 60 k's ...Ouch !..and with it, some quite mild temps so fingers crossed there isnt too much moisture mixed in with this...or dare I say the word drizzle and r%#n may follow. We shall see.
The good news is that in its wake, we should see cooler NW air and temps and snow to follow. Lets hold that thought !
I'll check back in tomorrow morning and see how its all shaping up. Spring is definitely here !
